There is a quaint cool factor about Belgrade, Serbia.  More so than its architecture or landscape, I find the charm in its people and their confidence.  The city’s most happening spots tend to be at their numerous cafés.  There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of cafés all over Belgrade and most of them are quite crowded, day and night.

My ventures to Cafés & Restaurants of Belgrade

My first morning in Belgrade began fresh and green at The Square lounge  inside the Four Square Hotel.  The waiter was very kind to inform – although not on the menu he will be serving me a  glass of fresh and local green squeezed juice; total winner in my books.

Gusti Mora is a good place for seafood.  This place is perhaps one of the better fish restaurants in Belgrade.  Being at Gusti Mora with local friends and having dined there in the past, we knew our favourites and exactly what to order.

  • Cuttlefish ink risotto
  • Octopus- Mediterranean style
  • Sea bass in the oven with potato

All of the above dishes are recommended.  Especially succulent were the baked potatoes as a side to the sea bass – warm, moist and just the right amount of crisp.

With the chilly weather that hit the town upon my arrival, I was hoping for some heart warming soup.  What I found – and indeed, they were heart warming – at this charming organic restaurant, Gnezdo was a roasted root vegetable pottage.

Their menu is full of local and organic goodies from smoothies to risottos and even homemade desserts.  If you are a local and organic enthusiast like me, you’re sure to find something on the menu at this sweet place.

Additional Restaurants

The restaurant, Frans  have been around for many years serving great traditional dishes.  I have dined there for lunch at least once on each of my trip to Belgrade.  Traditional yet stylish vibe with good food must be what keeps me going back to this place.

A modern Japanese cuisine is available at Sakura, at Beton Hala- waterfront area overlooking the river Sava.  When I went on a Saturday night, the place was bustling with a beautiful crowd and its dim yet vibrant atmosphere was amplified by a live saxophone player.  The sushi was satisfactory.  I would recommend this place if you’re looking for a fun-lively night out with friends.

I always have a good ol’ time in Belgrade and this trip was no exception.  Thank you Belgrade for another memorable stay.  Until next time.
